Connecting to the Internet

Patching your System

When you arrive on campus and you attempt to connect to the campus network we have a system in place that will analyze your computer's vulnerability to attack and attempt to fix any discovered vulnerabilities prior to allowing your computer access to the network. We have instituted this system because historically we have discovered that many of our resident's computers were infecting eachother across the residential network and as a result the network became unusable.

Your first week will be busy. We recommend you update your system before you arrive to not only simplify your first few days here but also because it makes good sense to have a computer that is less suceptable to attack.

On the following pages we will show you how to make and keep your computer up-to-date to protect yourself and our shared network.

*Note:Windows OS prior to 2000 will NOT be allowed to connect to the campus network for security reasons. Windows XP Professional is strongly recommended over Windows 2000.
